Η σειρά "Superman: The Animated Series" έκανε πρεμιέρα το 1996 και αποτελεί μέρος του λεγόμενου DC Animated Universe (DCAU), το οποίο εγκαινιάστηκε με το θρυλικό "Batman: The Animated Series" (1992). Δημιουργήθηκε από τους Bruce Timm και Paul Dini, οι οποίοι προσέφεραν έναν ώριμο, καλλιτεχνικά προσεγμένο και αφηγηματικά ισχυρό Superman, μακριά από τις πιο παιδικές εκδοχές του παρελθόντος.
Η σειρά επικεντρώνεται στον Clark Kent, έναν νεαρό άνδρα που μεγαλώνει στην Smallville αλλά μετακομίζει στη Metropolis όπου, ως Superman, έρχεται αντιμέτωπος με πανίσχυρους εχθρούς, από τον Lex Luthor έως τον Darkseid του πλανήτη Apokolips.
Η μεταγλώττιση προβλήθηκε και από την ελληνική τηλεόραση (κυρίως το Star Channel), με φωνές που αγαπήθηκαν από το ελληνικό κοινό των ‘90s. Πρόκειται για μία από τις πιο ποιοτικές δουλειές μεταγλώττισης που έγιναν στην Ελλάδα εκείνη την εποχή
Η σειρά χαρακτηρίστηκε από πολλούς κριτικούς ως μία από τις πιο ώριμες απεικονίσεις του Superman, με σοβαρό τόνο και δραματικό βάθος. Το σχέδιο ακολουθεί το «retro-futuristic» στιλ που λάνσαρε ο Bruce Timm, συνδυάζοντας μοντερνισμό και νοσταλγία. Ο Tim Daly δάνεισε τη φωνή του στον Superman στην αυθεντική αγγλική έκδοση. Το επεισόδιο με τον Κρυπτονίτη καθιέρωσε τον Lex Luthor ως βασικό ανταγωνιστή στη σειρά. Η σειρά προηγήθηκε χρονικά από το Justice League (2001), και έθεσε τις βάσεις για τη δημιουργία του κοινού animated σύμπαντος της DC....................................................................................................................

The series "Superman: The Animated Series" premiered in 1996 and is part of the so-called DC Animated Universe (DCAU), which was launched with the legendary "Batman: The Animated Series" (1992). It was created by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini, who delivered a mature, artistically refined, and narratively powerful version of Superman, far from the more childish interpretations of the past.
The story follows Clark Kent, a young man raised in Smallville who moves to Metropolis, where—as Superman—he faces powerful enemies, from Lex Luthor to Darkseid of the planet Apokolips.
The Greek dubbing was also aired on Greek television (mainly on Star Channel), with voice actors beloved by Greek audiences of the ‘90s. It is considered one of the highest-quality dubbing efforts ever produced in Greece at the time.
The series has been described by many critics as one of the most mature portrayals of Superman, with a serious tone and dramatic depth. The animation followed the "retro-futuristic" style introduced by Bruce Timm, blending modernity with nostalgia. Tim Daly voiced Superman in the original English version. The episode featuring Kryptonite established Lex Luthor as a key antagonist in the series.
